How every county in the Keystone State voted in the Trump-Harris race
Pennsylvania has been the single most decisive state in the last three presidential
elections. In 2024, Donald Trump carried the state by approximately 1.8 points over
Kamala Harris, flipping it back after Biden's narrow 2020 win.
The county-level map tells a story of two Pennsylvanias: a deep blue Philadelphia
and its inner suburbs versus an ocean of red stretching across the rural center and
northeast. The battleground lies in the collar counties, Erie, and the Lehigh Valley.
The four suburban counties ringing Philadelphia — Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and
Bucks — are where modern Pennsylvania elections are decided. These affluent, educated
suburbs have trended Democratic since 2016, but the margins shifted in 2024.
Bucks County, the classic swing county, saw the tightest margin in the region.
Chester and Delaware remained solidly blue but with reduced margins compared to 2020.
Montgomery County, the most populous suburb, delivered the largest raw Democratic
vote margin outside Philadelphia.
Erie County has voted with the winner in every presidential election since 1960.
In 2024, it continued that streak, shifting further right from its narrow 2020
Biden win. The county's mix of blue-collar workers, a small college population,
and a declining manufacturing base makes it a microcosm of the broader
Rust Belt realignment.
The swing from 2020 to 2024 in Erie was among the largest of any Pennsylvania county,
reflecting broader trends in working-class communities across the Midwest.
The anthracite and bituminous coal regions of northeastern and central Pennsylvania
continued their decades-long shift toward Republicans. Schuylkill, Luzerne, Carbon,
and Cambria counties — once reliably Democratic union strongholds — delivered some
of the widest Republican margins in recent history.
These counties exemplify the realignment of working-class white voters that has
reshaped American politics since 2016.
